Brain Tumor

Overview

The brain tumors are caused by the cancer that occurs directly in the brain tissue or spreads to the brain from the other parts of the body. The symptoms such as headaches, nausea and vomiting, imbalance, impaired vision, changes in memory, and speech may occur. The diagnostic tests should be done to determine whether these symptoms are associated with a brain tumor. Surgery is the most common treatment for most brain tumors, except for radiation therapy and chemotherapy options.

Early diagnosis has an important effect on the treatment of brain tumors.

How is Brain Tumor Surgery Performed?

First to know, features of a surgery depends on the location of the tumor, the patient’s age, general health, and previous treatments. Neurological examinations, imaging tests such as MRI and blood tests are performed before the operation. During the operation, the tumor is removed as much as possible without harming vital functions. In some cases, the cancerous tissue cannot be completely removed and the side effects are alleviated by reducing the pressure exerted by the tumor on the brain.

The operation may take 3-5 hours on average, and this time varies depending on the type of surgery.

After Brain Tumor Surgery

The hospitalization after brain tumor surgery is approximately 5-7 days.

After the operation, your head is covered with a bandage. Some effects such as swelling and pain in the operation area, dizziness, and confusion may occur. You should take other medications, including pain killers, regularly. It is important to follow the doctor and nurse recommendations to maintain fluid balance in your body, especially in the first few days after surgery. Imaging tests such as MRI or CT may be required in the days after surgery.

My aunt had a knee replacement surgery on both her knees and we've seen an incredible progress eventhough it's only been 2 weeks. Doctor is amazing, hospitality is another level, nurses and all procedures are highly professional. As someone who has been to many big hospitals in Turkey, I must say this one is by far the best cause they're health-oriented as opposed to money oriented. Definitely recommend it to anyone especially for orthopedic surgery and physiotherapy.
