Kidney Transplant in Turkey

Overview

A kidney transplant is the process of transplanting a new kidney from a healthy person (donor) to people with end-stage kidney disease. The function of the kidneys is to remove waste from the blood by producing urine. When kidneys lose this ability, harmful wastes can accumulate in the body and cause kidney failure.

People with end-stage kidney disease may need treatment of dialysis or a kidney transplant. After a successful kidney transplant, there is no need for dialysis thanks to a healthy new kidney.

Before Kidney Transplant

You will be evaluated by the specialists whether you are a suitable candidate for a kidney transplant or not.

In this evaluation phase;

  • A comprehensive physical examination,
  • Tests such as X-rays, MRIs or CT scans,
  • Blood tests,
  • Other necessary tests determined by your doctor.

The suitability of the kidney to be transplanted is also evaluated according to factors such as blood and tissue compatibility.

Kidney Transplant Surgery

Kidney transplant surgery is performed under general anesthesia. The new kidney is placed in the body by making an incision in the lower abdomen.

After Kidney Transplant Surgery

The donor stays in the hospital for 4 days. The kidney transplant patient needs to stay in the hospital for about 14 days in order to control the side effects and recovery status, and to monitor the healthy functioning of the new kidney.

Regular controls are required to monitor the compatibility of the new kidney and how well it is working. After the kidney transplant, medications given to prevent the immune system from reacting to the new kidney should be used regularly. Healthy nutrition is important in this process, and assistance can be obtained from a specialist in nutrition.

My aunt had a knee replacement surgery on both her knees and we've seen an incredible progress eventhough it's only been 2 weeks. Doctor is amazing, hospitality is another level, nurses and all procedures are highly professional. As someone who has been to many big hospitals in Turkey, I must say this one is by far the best cause they're health-oriented as opposed to money oriented. Definitely recommend it to anyone especially for orthopedic surgery and physiotherapy.
