Breast Cancer in Turkey

Overview

Breast cancer occurs in the cells that make up breast tissue. It is one of the most common types of cancer, especially among women. It may occur with symptoms such as change in breast shape and size, formation of a lump. Mammography screening, in which x-rays of the breast are taken, is the most important way to detect cancer at an early stage. Breast cancer often requires surgery to remove the tumor as part of the treatment. In addition, surgery may be an option for people with a very high risk of breast cancer to reduce the risk of cancer in the future.

How is Breast Cancer Surgery Performed?

Firstly, the treatment options are evaluated for the more suitable treatment. In some cases, options such as chemotherapy, hormone therapy, or targeted radiological therapy may be applied before surgery. If the surgery option is picked up among all treatment options, first of all, some necessary tests and scans such as blood tests are performed. Surgery depends on the size and type of cancer. All or part of the breast tissue can be removed during surgery.

The surgery is done under general anesthesia. Cancerous tissue is removed by an incision in the chest area. If the cancer has spread, lymph nodes can also be removed or additional treatment options are recommended. The operation is terminated by closing the incision area. The surgery usually takes 1-3 hours.

After Breast Cancer Surgery

The hospitalization after breast cancer surgery is approximately 1-2 days. Postoperative pain, numbness, and discomfort may occur in the armpit area. The medicines and treatments which are given by your doctor should be regularly applied. Avoid heavy work until your wounds have healed completely. You can get exercise and nutrition suggestions for rapid recovery after surgery.

My aunt had a knee replacement surgery on both her knees and we've seen an incredible progress eventhough it's only been 2 weeks. Doctor is amazing, hospitality is another level, nurses and all procedures are highly professional. As someone who has been to many big hospitals in Turkey, I must say this one is by far the best cause they're health-oriented as opposed to money oriented. Definitely recommend it to anyone especially for orthopedic surgery and physiotherapy.
